From the first barn in Pompadour to global technology

The SICAME Group was founded in October 1955 in France by two engineers, Basile Lachaud and Marcel Prodel. The company’s beginnings trace back to a small, 250-square-meter barn in Pompadour, where equipment for low and medium voltage networks was manufactured. The first successes came with the development and introduction of the P-63 strain clamp and the CM-58 current clamp to power grids. Dynamic growth, driven by innovative solutions and increasing demand for energy, quickly led to the expansion of production facilities and international expansion.

Today, the SICAME Group operates in 26 countries, has 50 subsidiaries on 5 continents, and employs approximately 3,600 people. SICAME is a global leader in the field of energy transmission and distribution, offering solutions for overhead and underground power lines, renewable energy, and industry.

Sicame Group was founded in 1955, following the meeting of two talented engineers, Mr. Basile LACHAUD and Mr. Marcel PRODEL. The Societe Industrielle de Construction d’Appareils et de Materiel Electriques, or Sicame for short, an industrial company for the construction of electrical equipment, was founded on October 22, 1955, with the participation of eleven shareholders from the Pompadour region in France. The mission of the newly formed company was to produce equipment for the construction of low and medium voltage power distribution networks. Initially with modest means, Mr. LACHAUD and PRODEL rented a simple 250 m² barn on the outskirts of the town of Pompadour, where they began their business. In 1956, a pioneering team of Sicame employees began work. The company began its operations by producing several products for connecting wires, which were patented. The company’s real success began with the development and introduction of the P-63 tension clamp and the CM-58 current clamp into power networks.

Seeing the success of the first products and the potential of using insulated wires, the founders of the company took up the challenge of starting a factory. A modern plant with an area of 1000 m² was established in 1962. The expansion of the company’s headquarters was accompanied by the rapid development of the company related to the construction and expansion of power grids in France. In 1967, the plant was expanded to an area of 4500 m², and in 1977 the area of the factory was already 10,500 m². This period marked a breakthrough in the company’s activity, which led to the expansion of the company and the transformation of the company into an international Group. Internal growth driven by innovation, courage and ingenuity of the founders became the reason for the rapid implementation of the company’s expansion policy and the creation or purchase of other companies in the following years of activity.

The history of Sicame in Poland dates back to the mid-1970s. The first power line in Poland built using Sicame terminals – Miejska Górka 1974.
